Simon started the Australian national broadband company Internode in 1991, sold it in to iiNet in 2011 and wound up on the board of the National Broadband Network. He then transitioned into the renewable energy space, becoming the largest investor and the battery management system designer for Redflow, a non-lithium battery maker. He builds commercial scale renewable energy systems, both for himself and as examples to inspire others to do the same. He flies an electric self-launch glider that is charged from solar panels and batteries on his farm in Tasmania.  Simon is also an investor in the Fully Charged Show company and a member of its board.
