In 2026, HPT completed field testing of direct DC energy transfer between compatible electric vehicles using a 40 kW mobile bidirectional charger. The work explored potential applications in roadside assistance, fleet support and off-grid settings.

Vehicle-to-vehicle charging, or V2V, transfers energy from a compatible donor vehicle to another vehicle through suitable charging equipment. It offers a potential approach to temporary mobile support where fixed charging infrastructure is unavailable.

The 40 kW figure describes the charger’s power rating, not a guaranteed transfer rate. Actual performance depends on the vehicles, battery conditions, equipment configuration and operating limits.

At Everything Electric Sydney 2026, HPT will present this mobile equipment alongside a 30 kW V2L/V2G unit. Visitors can discuss how vehicle-to-load applications may support compatible electrical loads, and how vehicle-to-grid technology can enable energy export through an appropriately configured and approved system.

V2G operation requires a compatible vehicle and charger, suitable installation, grid connection approval and applicable operating arrangements. The team will explain these requirements and discuss potential applications with visitors.

Stand K12 will also feature AC/DC charging equipment, a solar carport display with UMAX, Wattshare charging management and Starlink accessories. Equipment will be on static display.
